CBSE to Implement On-Screen Marking for Students in Class 12 in 2026

The CBSE expanded the digitisation of answer sheet evaluation by implementing On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 exams for the first time this year. CBSE has used OSM at its maximum scale for 98,66,622 answer sheets across 6,000-plus evaluation centres, using 88,000 computers. With OSM, evaluators use digital answer sheets and evaluate by a computer and a mouse. This eliminates issues with totalling, posting, partially evaluated answer sheets, and the requirement to carry answer sheets to the evaluation centre, thereby reducing the risk of loss or damage.

Participation in the evaluation process was 70,000 evaluators, 17,500 Assistant Head Examiners, and 3,889 Head Examiners. CBSE hosted a live webinar on February 13, 2026, in front of more than 30,000 schools, and more than 4 lakh as an introduction to the exam processes and the OSM for teacher and staff orientation. Teachers welcomed the OSM positively, stating the processes became more accurate, the manual workload diminished, and the posting became of shorter duration compared to previous years. CBSE conducted training for all examiners, and the system was user-friendly, with a quick adaptation process.

Student Actions Following 2026 CBSE Class 12 Results

Students who are not satisfied with their results can use the Post Results Declaration services beginning April 18, 2026. As OSM removes totalling errors, and to be fair, the re-evaluation services will be made available just like in previous years. Requests are accepted online, and strict adherence to the deadline is expected. Students who are in the Compartment category can appear for the Supplementary Exam on July 15, 2026. The one-day exam is available for three categories of students: students who passed in 2026 and wish to take the exam to improve in one subject, Compartment students in 2026, and students of 2025 who are in their last opportunity to clear the Compartment. The Last of Chance (LOC) submission is available from June 2, 2026.

In keeping with its policy of avoiding unhealthy competition, CBSE will continue not to publish a merit list and will not provide awards for first, second, and third divisions. However, for each subject, merit certificates will be given to the top 0.1% of students and will be available on DigiLocker. For students in India, how schools provide printed Mark Sheets and Pass Certificates has changed. UGC has confirmed that DigiLocker copies are accepted legally for all purposes, including future education.
