Centre Sanctions ₹140 Crore for Ayurveda and Homoeopathy Medical Colleges in Tripura

The Centre has sanctioned ₹140 crore to help Tripura establish new Ayurveda and homoeopathy medical colleges. CM Manik Saha confirms plans to begin academic activities next year after high-level reviews and roadmap finalisation.

Agartala : The Central Government has approved ₹140 crore to support Tripura’s plan to establish two new medical institutions—an Ayurveda Medical College and a Homoeopathy Medical College. The move is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare education in the northeastern state.

Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the development on Tuesday, confirming that the Ministry of Ayush has formally sanctioned the funds. Tripura, which currently houses three medical colleges including the Agartala Government Medical College, will see a major expansion in its academic offerings through these upcoming institutions.

In a Facebook post, Saha wrote, “The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has sanctioned ₹140 crore for establishing Ayurveda Medical College and Homoeopathy Medical College in Tripura.”

Roadmap Finalised to Start Classes Next Year

The Chief Minister shared that a high-level meeting was held to chalk out the roadmap for the new colleges. Officials reviewed essential requirements, infrastructure needs, and timelines to ensure that academic activities can begin from the next academic session.

The establishment of these specialised colleges comes as demand grows for traditional and alternative medicine education across India. Tripura aims to strengthen its regional capacity to train professionals in Ayurveda and homoeopathy while expanding healthcare accessibility.

Boost to Traditional Medicine & Healthcare Ecosystem

With the Centre’s financial backing, the state is preparing to upgrade its academic and institutional framework in traditional medicine. The upcoming colleges are expected to:

Offer new pathways for students interested in Ayurveda and homoeopathy

  • Support Tripura’s healthcare workforce
  • Enhance access to specialised medical education
  • Strengthen traditional healing systems in the region

CM Thanks the Centre for Support

Expressing gratitude, CM Saha said he is thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and Minister of State for AYUSH Prataprao Yadav for their continued support in improving Tripura’s healthcare and education infrastructure.

The sanction is seen as a major push for Tripura’s long-term vision to expand opportunities in medical education and promote traditional medicine through dedicated institutions.
