CTET September 2026: Exam Date, Application, Eligibility and Key Dates

CBSE has officially announced the 22nd edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) for September 6, 2026. Online applications open from May 11, 2026. Here is everything aspiring teachers need to know about eligibility, exam dates, and how to apply.

What is CTET and Why is it Necessary for Interested Teachers

CTET is the acronym for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test, the only national-level eligibility test for teaching administered by the Central Government for teachers in the mom-and-pop schools of the Central Government, including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas. Paper I is for the students who want to teach grades 1 to 5, while Paper II is for the students who want to teach grades 6 to 8. Taking and passing the CTET is a minimum requirement to become a school teacher in Central Government schools, making this test highly competitive and attractive. This, the 22nd series, will likely be no different, and since lakhs of students are likely to show interest, applying soon and preparing early will be in everyone's best interest. According to the official updates released by the CBSE, the CTET Sept 2026 results will most likely be announced by the end of 2026.

Deadlines for Key Details and Applications You Should Notice

The CTET exam for Sept 2026 will be open for applications and payment from May 11 to June 10, with all payments due by 11:59 PM on June 10. From June 15 to June 18, applicants may make changes to their application, but no changes will be permitted past June 18. Two days before the exam, candidates will be able to download their admit cards. Depending on the volume of candidates, CBSE may elect to administer the exam on Saturday, September 5.

City Allotment Policy and What Candidates Must Know

One of the most significant aspects of the CTET September 2026 announcement is the examination city allotment policy. There is no option to select an examination city in the online application portal. CBSE will allot examination cities to candidates on a random basis. Once a city is allotted, no requests for change will be accepted, regardless of the reason. This applies to all registered candidates without exception. Candidates are advised to keep this in mind before submitting their application and should be prepared to appear at whatever city is assigned to them. The examination will be conducted across 132 cities throughout the country, giving a wide geographic spread to accommodate the large number of candidates who apply each year.

Where to Find and How to Access the Information Bulletin

You can only submit the application online. Once you access the Information Bulletin, you will be able to fill out the official application on the CTET Official website (https://ctet.nic.in) and the CBSE website (https://www.cbse.gov.in). These websites will host the official CBSE Bulletin, which will consist of the entire syllabus, eligibility, choices of cities for the examination, choices of languages, the fee structure, and dates for all the important events. The CBSE has specifically stated that all future candidates need to access the Bulletin on these websites and that they need to carefully read the information before they complete the application. The CBSE has guided all candidates not to depend on any third party information because only these two websites will have fully authoritative information for the 22nd CTET.
