CUH Organises Expert Talk on Stability of Second Order Hyperbolic Equations

The session focused on the mathematical analysis and numerical treatment of second-order hyperbolic equations, which play a significant role in modeling wave propagation, fluid dynamics, and various physical phenomena.

New Delhi. : The Department of Mathematics, Central University of Haryana (CUH), organised an expert lecture on “Stability of Second Order Hyperbolic Equation” by Prof. Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Distinguished Professor, Department of Mathematics, South Asian University (SAU), New Delhi.

The lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty of the department. The session focused on the mathematical analysis and numerical treatment of second-order hyperbolic equations, which play a significant role in modeling wave propagation, fluid dynamics, and various physical phenomena.

Prof. R. K. Mohanty is a distinguished academician with over 30 years of teaching and research experience. He holds a Ph.D. from IIT Delhi and has previously served at the University of Delhi and the University of Indore before joining South Asian University. His areas of specialization include Numerical Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, numerical methods for Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), Boundary Value Problems (BVPs), and high-order difference methods.

During his lecture, Prof. Mohanty elaborated on stability analysis techniques for second-order hyperbolic equations and highlighted the importance of high-order numerical schemes in ensuring accurate and stable computational solutions. He also discussed contemporary research challenges and advancements in numerical methods for PDEs.

Prof. Mohanty is the recipient of several prestigious fellowships, including the FNASc, Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowship (2013), Commonwealth Fellowship (2000), and BOYSCAST Fellowship (1996). He has conducted post-doctoral research at internationally reputed institutions such as Louisiana Tech University (USA), Nottingham Trent University (UK), and Loughborough University (UK).

The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion session, where students engaged with the speaker on various aspects of stability theory and computational techniques. The Department expressed its gratitude to Prof. Mohanty for delivering an insightful and enriching lecture that greatly benefited over60 students of MSc.
