Delhi Government to Recruit 5,346 Teachers to Strengthen Learning in Schools

The Delhi government has announced the recruitment of 5,346 trained graduate teachers (TGTs) to improve classroom learning, reduce the student-teacher ratio, and enhance education quality across government and municipal schools.

New Delhi : In a significant move to enhance classroom learning and improve the student-teacher ratio, the Delhi government has announced the recruitment of 5,346 trained graduate teachers (TGTs) across government and municipal schools. The online application process began on October 9 and will remain open until November 7, according to the Directorate of Education (DoE).

Major Push for Quality Education

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the initiative underscores her government’s commitment to providing students with a high-quality, nurturing learning environment.

“This recruitment marks another step toward building an education system where every child receives quality teaching, personalised guidance, and the opportunity to reach their full potential,” Gupta stated in a post on X.

The government aims to address long-standing teacher shortages and ensure more effective engagement in classrooms, particularly in core subjects like mathematics, science, and languages.

Current Strength and Vacancies

As per official DoE data, over 70,000 teachers currently serve in Delhi’s government schools, catering to nearly 18 lakh students. However, around 10,000 posts remain vacant, creating imbalances in student-teacher ratios in several institutions.

Education experts have consistently emphasized the need for additional teachers to ease classroom pressure and enhance learning outcomes, particularly in densely populated schools.

Recruitment Process

A circular issued by the DoE on October 3 detailed the recruitment schedule, with applications open from October 9 to November 7. Once the selection process concludes, the newly appointed TGTs will be deployed across Delhi government and municipal schools.

Officials stated that the new appointments will support innovative teaching practices, improved academic engagement, and the broader goal of upgrading public school infrastructure and pedagogy.

Boosting Learning Outcomes

The addition of more teachers will facilitate individualized attention for students, allowing for greater one-on-one interaction and reducing the strain on existing staff.

This initiative forms part of the Delhi government’s continuous efforts to create a student-centric, inclusive, and efficient education system that ensures equal learning opportunities for children from all socio-economic backgrounds
