IIT Roorkee, Hosts High Level Workshop on Disaster Risk , Resilience and Himalayan safety

IIT roorkey organised a high level workshop on disaster risk, resilience and migration, with a special focus on Himalayan safety. The event brought together experts from leading institutions, government bodies and disaster response agencies. Discussions focus on moving from disaster response to long-term resilience, using technology and science. The workshop highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to protect prone regions like Uttarakhand.

Roorkee - IIT, Roorkee in collaboration with Shri Trilochan Upreti Smriti Himalayi Sodh Sansthan, organized a one-day high-level workshop on Disaster Risk Resilience and Mitigation at the O.P Jain Auditorium. The workshop aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience in the Himalayan regions, particularly Uttarakhand which is highly vulnerable to earthquake, landslides, floods and cloudbursts and forest fires.

The event was graced virtually by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Sri Pushkar Singh Dhami as the Chief Guest  and presided over by Professor. K.K.Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee. Senior academicians, scientists , policymakers and officials from the disaster-response agencies participated in discussions on technology-enabled disaster management and sustainable development.

Experts emphasised the need of the need to move beyond relief-based approaches towards anticipatory  and science-led disaster resilience. The workshop featured technical sessions , panel discussions and technology demonstration showcasing innovations such as AI driven, monitoring systems , flood and hazard mapping tools , early warning systems and resilient infrastructure solution.

Concluding the event, IIT Roorkee reaffirmed its commitment to advancing research, policy support and capacity building to a strengthen disaster resilience in Uttrakhand and other Harzrd- Prone regions of the country.
