BHU to Host International Workshop on Pest Genomics and Molecular Characterization

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will organize an International Workshop and Hands-on Training titled “Pest Genomics: Tools and Techniques for Molecular Characterization of Agricultural Pests & Pathogens” from 9 to 13 February 2026 at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

Varanasi - The Institute of Agricultural SciencesBanaras Hindu University (BHU) is set to conduct a five-day international workshop aimed at strengthening practical and conceptual understanding of pest genomics and molecular biology techniques relevant to agriculture. The programme is being jointly organized by the Department of Entomology & Agricultural Zoology and the Department of Mycology & Plant Pathology.

The workshop is designed to provide hands-on training in modern molecular and bioinformatics tools used for the characterization of agricultural pests and plant pathogens. Key modules include DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and its variants, primer designing, gel electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, sequence and phylogenetic analysis, real-time PCR, isothermal amplification assays, and NCBI data submission.

The event will feature eminent scientists and experts from leading national research institutes and universities, including senior scientists from ICAR institutes and industry professionals, who will share insights into current research trends and real-world applications in crop protection and pest management.

With an emphasis on capacity building and skill development, the workshop aims to benefit postgraduate students, doctoral scholars, faculty members, and researchers working in entomology, plant pathology, mycology, genetics, and allied life sciences. The initiative reflects BHU’s continued commitment to advancing agricultural research and promoting cutting-edge scientific training in India.
