Harsha Global Capability Centre Inaugurated at IIT Gandhinagar Research Park

The inauguration event was held at the IIT Gandhinagar Research Park.

Gandhinagar | February 04, 2026: Harsha Engineers International Limited (HEIL) inaugurated their Global Capability Centre (HGCC), at IIT Gandhinagar Research Park(HGCC) on February 02, 2026, marking a significant step towards strengthening industry–academia collaboration in research, innovation, and applied engineering.

The inauguration event was held at the IIT Gandhinagar Research Park. The programme included traditional lamp lighting, followed by addresses by Prof Amit Prashant, Dean (External Relations), IIT Gandhinagar, Leadership of HEIL; Mr Pilak Shah, Chief Operating Officer and Whole-time Director, Harsha Engineers International Ltd; Rajendra Shah, Chairman and Whole-time Director, Harish Rangwala, Managing Director. Prof Manish Kumar, Prof Uttama Lahiri, Prof Rajendran, Prof Ravi Ayyagari  from IIT Gandhinagar faculty shared their experiences and the possibilities.

“At the IIT Gandhinagar Research Park, the focus has always been on creating the right connections between academia and industry so that collaboration goes beyond shared space and translates into real outcomes. Our engagement with Harsha has already been dense and meaningful, even before the centre formally comes together. Such sustained interaction is crucial for building technological capacity, addressing industry needs, and enabling innovation that can contribute to India’s manufacturing and economic growth. We are confident that this relationship will continue to grow, picking up specific projects and shining in alignment with the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ vision. We are keen to work together and look forward to exploring more opportunities with your support and presence,” said Prof Amit Prashant, Dean of External Relations, IIT Gandhinagar.

“We strongly believe in the need for industry-academia collaboration, as the industry faces many problems that require solutions, while academia has valuable theoretical knowledge that often gets overlooked once engineers enter the workforce,” said Pilak Shah, Chief Operating Officer and Whole-time Director.

“By working together, we can give new direction to the problems we are trying to solve and the products we are developing. Today, with the ‘Make in India’ initiative and the global China-plus-one environment, India has a unique opportunity to excel, and collaboration between industry and academia will be crucial in realizing that potential,” he added.

“For us, becoming a product company requires identifying the right products, developing them together with the university, making them industry-ready, and scaling them in the future. I am grateful this initiative has started and confident that with the support of the university’s infrastructure, skills, and knowledge, we will achieve long-term impact,” he said.

The Harsha Global Capability Centre is envisioned as a living ecosystem for collaborative research, innovation, and applied engineering solutions, enabling closer engagement between academic researchers, students, and industry professionals. The centre aims to bridge academic ideas with real industry needs, supporting joint research, student involvement, shared learning, and practical innovation.

Noting the progress of the initiative, Rajendra Shah, Chairman and Whole-time Director, expressed confidence that “this project will yield excellent results, helping the company develop new products.” He emphasized that becoming a product company has been part of the larger dream since 1947—to become a developed nation—and highlighted the importance of strong manufacturing capabilities. Drawing from his life experience, he said that “once you decide to do something, it will happen, whether it takes days, a year, or even five years, and with confidence and determination, real change can be achieved.”

Harish Rangwala, Managing Director, highlighting the importance of quality and operational excellence, said, “The company is focused on solving day-to-day problems through strong collaboration and is ready to learn from every opportunity, leveraging experience from both new and seasoned team members.”

Located within the IIT Gandhinagar Research Park, the centre benefits from an environment that brings together research institutions, startups, industry partners, and public agencies. The Research Park serves as a platform for translating academic research into deployable technologies and solutions with real-world impact.

Faculty members, researchers, and representatives from Harsha Engineers were present at the event, highlighting the collaborative spirit underpinning the initiative. The Global Capability Centre is expected to create opportunities for long-term engagement in research, talent development, and innovation-driven partnerships.

The inauguration reflects a shared commitment by IIT Gandhinagar and Harsha Engineers to foster meaningful industry–academia collaboration and contribute to sustainable technological advancement.
