International Seminar on Ancient and Modern Literature in Performing and Visual Arts at MSU Baroda

The Department of Dance, Faculty of Performing Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, is organizing a two-day International Seminar in hybrid mode on 20–21 February 2026. The seminar will focus on the theme “Ancient and Modern Literature in Performing and Visual Arts and its Practice,” bringing together academicians, artists, and research scholars.

Baroda - The Department of Dance, Faculty of Performing Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU), in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), is organizing an International Seminar (Hybrid Mode) on the theme “Ancient and Modern Literature in Performing and Visual Arts and its Practice” on 20th and 21st February 2026 at the Concert Hall, Faculty of Performing Arts, Opp. Sursagar Lake, Vadodara.

The seminar marks the celebration of 75 years of the University’s establishment and aims to explore the deep-rooted relationship between literature and the performing and visual arts. It seeks to examine how ancient scriptures, epics, folk literature, and modern literary texts inspire and shape dance, music, theatre, visual arts, and contemporary artistic practices.

The event will be held under the patronage of Rajmata Shubhangini Raje Gaekwad, Honorable Chancellor, and Prof. Bhalchandra M. Bhange, Honorable Vice Chancellor. The seminar is convened by Dr. Ami Pandya, with Dr. Preeti Damle as Coordinator. Dr. Smruti Vaghela, Head, Department of Dance, and Prof. Gaurang Bhavsar, Dean, Faculty of Performing Arts, are also associated with the organization of the event.

The seminar will deliberate on sub-themes such as literary adaptations in theatre and film, mythology in performing arts, translation of poetry into choreography, cross-cultural literary exchanges, influence of Natyashastra, temple art and iconography, post-independence Indian literature, digital humanities and AI in art practices, and more.
