IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and TEXMiN Showcase Mining Innovation at Bharat Innovates 2026 in France

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and TEXMiN, as attendees and signatories of international collaboration agreements, as well as exhibitor of new technologies in mining and of services provision at the Bharat Innovates 2026 in France, showed the emergence of India in the field of innovations in mining, research and technologies in critical minerals, and of technology-based transformation of the industry.

RancHi, June 18, 2026: Bharat Innovates 2026 has begun on the initiative of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice, France. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and TEXMiN showcased the advancement of India in the field of mining, critical minerals, deep-tech research, and technology on a global platform. The first day of the event was historic for IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and TEXMiN with the opportunity of international collaboration and interaction with leaders of industry and academia, and the presentation of their technologies.'

The signing of international Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with IFP Energies Nouvelles (IFPEN) and École Centrale de Nantes was an event highlight. The signings took place in the presence of Hon'ble Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal, and Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. “We have the opportunity to highlight India's innovations on a global level. The agreements and interactions of the first day are a testimony to the fact that IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and TEXMiN are being recognized globally for their role in innovations of Mining and Critical Minerals. We hope to further the discussions we are having to truly impact industry and society,” said Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Chairman, HGB-TEXMiN.

Professor Dheeraj Kumar, Project Director of TEXMiN, commented, "Though years of hard work developed a strong innovation and technology translation system, seeing the first results during this event amidst the world’s most challenging and important economic and technological trends makes it even more significant. Strong interest in TEXMiN enables us to prove the potential of innovations driven by Indian Industry. With leaders of different domains, we are laying the foundation to harness technological advancements in mining, vital minerals, and environmental measurement. This is just the start of significant collaborations announced at Bharat Innovates 2026.”

It can be anticipated that among the collaborations stemming from this event, innovative ecosystems and technology will link between universities and research centers for the purpose of an international joint research and project collaboration in the areas of emerging and critical minerals, sustainable mining, advanced materials, and digital technologies.  To display India's innovation capabilities to a global audience, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and TEXMiN attended this event to showcase a number of technologies developed within their ecosystems.

One of the technologies presented was the Virtual Reality Mine Simulator developed by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, which is an advanced safety training simulator to increase safety and productivity in Indian Coal Operations.

Also presented were the following two pioneering technologies developed by TEXMiN:

  • AQ-AIMS - an AI Air Quality intelligence and environmental monitoring technology - and
  • Immersive HoloXperience – which offers stakeholders the ability to redesign mining operations through interactive digital immersion.

These advancements highlight the strength of the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad-TEXMiN system. They also emphasize TEXMiN’s position of India’s foremost Technology Translation Research Park (TTRP) regarding Mining and Critical Minerals. TEXMiN serves the world’s needs regarding the gap between research and industry. The event provided a forum to build on presentations and talks related to TEXMiN’s international industry alliances with Hexagon and Dassault Systèmes. Adopting a collaborative approach, the involved parties concentrated their efforts on the earlier outlined advanced topics for digital mining solutions. This concentration of interest provides the early steps needed to establish the delivery of new technologies, pilot initiatives, and collaborative research. The involvement of the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad as well as TEXMiN in Bharat Innovates 2026, is aligned with the core of the message communicated by the event, which indicates that India’s systems and methods for innovation are adequately prepared to take the initiative and participate in collaborative efforts to offer significant and useful solutions on a global scale.
