JKBOSE Announces 15% Syllabus Relaxation; Class 10 Board Exams to Begin on November 3

The Jammu and Kashmir Board grants relief to students amid academic disruptions; exams to run from November 3 to 27 across Kashmir Division and Kargil.

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has announced a 15% syllabus relaxation for students of Classes 10, 11, and 12 appearing in the Annual Regular 2025 examinations. The relaxation applies to students from the Kashmir Division, winter zone areas of the Jammu Division, and the Union Territory of Ladakh, providing much-needed relief after a disrupted academic year.

According to the official notification issued on October 4, students will now be required to attempt only 85% of the question paper, and their marks will still be calculated out of 100%. The decision comes in response to repeated disruptions caused by heatwaves, heavy rains, cloudbursts, and floods, which affected regular classroom learning and delayed the start of the academic session.

While question papers will cover the entire prescribed syllabus, students will be given internal choices to attempt the required 85% of questions. The board also clarified that each Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) will carry individual marking, extending the same evaluation pattern to grammar sections in language papers.

Decision Based on Stakeholder Feedback

JKBOSE stated that the decision was made after consultations with the Directorates of School Education in Kashmir and Jammu, as well as requests from students, teachers, and parents seeking relief due to the academic interruptions.

By reducing the effective syllabus load while maintaining evaluation standards, the board aims to ease exam stress and ensure fairness in assessment for all students.

The move reflects JKBOSE’s commitment to student welfare and academic equity, ensuring that natural and infrastructural challenges do not hinder learners’ performance in the 2025 board examinations.
