KOLKATA, April 1- Jadavpur University has officially released the notification for its highly anticipated 2026 summer internship program, focusing on the specialized fields of Microelectronics Technology and VLSI Design. This intensive six-week certified program is organized by the IC Design & Fabrication Centre, which is a recognized Centre of Excellence within the Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Scheduled to begin on May 18, 2026, and run until June 26, 2026, the internship offers a rare opportunity for students to step away from textbooks and engage in high-level technical training. The sessions will be held daily from Monday to Saturday, between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, ensuring a rigorous and immersive learning environment for all participants.

As the semiconductor industry continues to grow globally, Jadavpur University aims to equip the next generation of engineers with the practical skills needed to excel in chip design and hardware fabrication. This announcement has sparked significant interest among the student community, as the university is known for its state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and expert faculty who provide guidance throughout the course. The curriculum for this program is remarkably comprehensive, covering six major technical modules that bridge the gap between theoretical physics and practical engineering. Students will start with the fabrication and characterization of semiconductor devices, where they will learn about mask fabrication and hardware processes like cleaning, etching, and oxidation. Another major highlight is the focus on nano-sensors and their applications, including the synthesis of graphene and the use of smart nanomaterials for Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. For those interested in digital logic, the course includes FPGA-based prototyping where students work on architectural design and logic synthesis for digital circuits. Furthermore, the program dives deep into Analog MOS Circuit Design, teaching students how to create single-stage amplifiers and current mirrors using industry-standard tools like Cadence. The internship also provides training in System Verilog and timing analysis for CPU design, along with fundamental analog circuit troubleshooting. This hands-on approach ensures that by the end of the six weeks, participants are proficient in laboratory handling, programming using Verilog, and the actual fabrication and characterization of physical sensors.

To be eligible for this prestigious training, candidates must be at least in their second year of a B.E. or B.Tech program in fields such as Electronics & Communication (ECE), Electrical Engineering, Information Technology (IT), or Computer Science (CSE). Students pursuing an M.Sc. in Electronics Science or similar equivalent degrees are also encouraged to apply. The application process is straightforward but requires students to act quickly, as seats are filled based on eligibility and the order of submission. Interested students can collect the application form directly from the IC Centre on the third floor of the Jadavpur University campus or download it from the official university website. Once filled, the form must be submitted in person along with a demand draft for the course fee, which is set at Rs. 10,620 for general candidates, inclusive of GST. Notably, Jadavpur University students are eligible for a 20% discount, bringing their fee down to Rs. 8,496. Applicants must also include necessary enclosures such as a passport-size photograph, copies of their birth certificate or Madhyamik admit card, and their academic mark sheets. It is important for outstation students to note that the university does not provide hostel accommodation for this short-term program.

This internship is more than just a summer course. It is a vital career-building step that provides students with a certificate from a premier Centre of Excellence upon successful completion. In a competitive job market, having documented experience with industry-standard EDA tools and micro-fabrication techniques can significantly boost a student's resume. The program is specifically designed to provide exposure to the entire VLSI design flow, from the initial theoretical stages to the final hardware prototyping. By working directly with FPGA boards and learning how to handle complex micro-fabrication equipment, students gain a level of confidence that is difficult to achieve in a standard classroom setting. The IC Centre’s commitment to providing "hands-on experience" means that every participant gets to touch the technology that powers modern electronics. As the application window is currently open, eligible students are advised to complete their registration soon to secure a spot in Batch I of this highly regarded 2026 summer program. For many, this will be the first step toward a successful career in the global semiconductor and microelectronics industry.
