Recap of Exam 1: How Karnataka Performed in April 2026

It was helpful to look back at April to understand today's exam results. The Karnataka 2nd PUC Exam 1 results were published on April 9, 2026, with the KSEAB recording an overall passing percentage of 86.48%. Out of 6,32,200 students that appeared for the examination in the streams of Science, Commerce, and Arts, 5,46,698 students passed.

Comparing 2026 with 2025, 2025 recorded a passing percentage of 73.45%, while in 2026 it jumped by 13.03%. In 2026, results for the Science stream showed a pass rate of 91.69%, Commerce 88.04%, and Arts 72.86%. Historically, girls have performed better than boys, with a passing percentage of 88.70% for girls and 83.65% for boys. In 2026, the KSEAB also revised its policy, with students now passing a subject with a score of 30% and an overall score of 33% (198 of 600 total marks). Kundan Krishna from Science and Disha from Alva's College Commerce were the top scorers of Exam 1 with a perfect score of 600.

What Exam 2 Means and Who Appeared for It

Exam 2 is the supplementary examination and is not a scaled-back version of the board exam. Under Karnataka’s new 3-exam system instituted by KSEAB, students can take exams for clearing or improving their 2nd PUC results three times in the same academic year. Exam 2 was held between April 30 and May 13, 2026. It was opened to three types of candidates: those who did not pass one or more subjects in Exam 1; those who had a valid reason for not taking Exam 1; and those who passed Exam 1, but wanted to take Exam 2 because they wanted to improve their score for a better KCET or NEET rank. Also, the KSEAB did not charge any fee for Exam 2, which motivated many candidates to take the exam without any financial burden.

The board considers the best score across attempts when calculating the KCET rank for Science stream students. Hence, a student who performed poorly on Exam 1 but better on Exam 2 would have a higher competitive exam rank. There is no indication of the attempt number on the official marks memo. So students need not have any reservations about taking this option.

What Students Must Do Right Now After the Results

With today's announcement of Exam 2 results, several deadlines for upcoming decisions have begun for students who passed Exam 2. Such students can now download their provisional marks sheet from karresults.nic.in and start applying for university admissions. Science students who wish to secure a place in engineering or pharmacy via the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) should note that the KEA will most likely publish the KCET 2026 rank list around the period of May 20 to May 25, 2026, on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in. Students must keep a close watch on that portal since that will be the first step in the registration for the college seats counselling. Students who were unable to clear Exam 2 have one more opportunity.

KSEAB will conduct Exam 3 in June 2026 and publish the results in July 2026. The announcement for Exam 3 registration will be conducted on kseab.karnataka.gov.in after today's result. Students who are unhappy with their Exam 2 grades can also request re-evaluation or retotalling on the KSEAB official portal. This option will be opened in the coming days. Students from the Arts and Commerce streams seeking admission to the BA, BCom, or BBA programs at Karnataka state universities must also check the university admission portals, as they typically release provisional merit lists by the end of June.
