Mahatma Gandhi University (MGUMST) Jaipur and the Indian Army Sign Historic MoU for Medical Excellence

Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology (MGUMST), Jaipur, signs a landmark MoU with the Indian Army’s South Western Command to provide scholarships and boost medical research.

JAIPUR: In a significant move to strengthen the bond between academia and the armed forces, the Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology (MGUMST), Jaipur, has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army’s South Western Command (Sapta Shakti Command).

The signing and exchange ceremony took place in the presence of Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the South Western Command, and Dr M.L. Swarankar, Founder and Emeritus Chairperson of MGUMST.

Empowering the Defenders of the Nation

The primary focus of this collaboration is to provide financial support and educational opportunities to the families of those who serve in the military. Under the terms of the MoU:

  • Wards of serving and retired soldiers admitted to the university's medical and dental courses through NEET will receive an annual scholarship of ₹1 lakh.

  • Students enrolled in allied health and paramedical courses will be granted a scholarship equivalent to one-third of their annual tuition fee.

A Partnership for Innovation and Research

Beyond scholarships, the agreement paves the way for a robust technical and academic exchange. The partnership will enable MGUMST to collaborate with Army medical colleges, opening new frontiers in:

  1. Medical Research & Technology: Joint development of medical technologies and healthcare solutions.

  2. Emergency Response: Lt. Gen. Manjinder Singh also inaugurated a new helipad at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, making it the first hospital in Rajasthan to have a dedicated landing site for air ambulances and emergency military-civilian medical evacuations.

Leadership Voices

Speaking at the event, Dr M.L. Swarankar expressed that the initiative was inspired by the Indian Army’s "selfless service and spirit of sacrifice." He eemphasisedthat this collaboration is a tribute to the nation's heroes.

Lt Gen Manjinder Singh lauded the university’s gesture, stating, "The Indian Army is the army of Indians. Such initiatives by civilian institutions not only boost the morale of our soldiers but also represent a true tribute to their dedication."

For the student community and the healthcare sector, this MoU represents a model for civil-military synergy. It ensures that high-quality medical education becomes more accessible to the children of veterans while fostering a culture of advanced research that can benefit both frontline soldiers and the general public.
