PM Modi Urges Schools and Citizens to Join ‘Run for Unity’ on October 31 to Honour Sardar Patel

New Delhi.; Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon citizens across the country — including schools, colleges, and institutions — to take part in the Run for Unity on October 31, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The day, observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), honours Patel’s vision of a united India and his historic role in integrating over 560 princely states after Independence.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote:

“Join the Run for Unity on 31st October and celebrate the spirit of togetherness! Let’s honour Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India.”

The Run for Unity is organised every year across India, with citizens from diverse backgrounds joining hands to promote national integration and collective strength.

Schools and Colleges Encouraged to Participate

The Ministry of Education has encouraged schools and higher education institutions to organise events in honour of the occasion. Suggested activities include:

  • Unity Runs within campuses and local communities.
  • Pledge Ceremonies reaffirming the ideals of national unity and harmony.
  • Debates, poster-making, and essay competitions based on the life and leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
  • Screenings and discussions on India’s journey of integration post-Independence.

Such events aim to inspire students with Sardar Patel’s values of determination, leadership, and patriotism while fostering the spirit of oneness among India’s youth.
