Raipur, October 25, 2024 — President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the 14th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur today, delivering a powerful address focused on the role of technology, artificial intelligence, and societal responsibility for India’s future engineers and leaders.

During her address, the President highlighted the critical role of science as a foundation for technological advancements. She cited the 2024 Nobel laureates in Physics and Chemistry, who were awarded for pioneering work related to Artificial Intelligence, including advancements in artificial neural networks, micro-RNA exploration, and protein structure prediction. President Murmu pointed out that breakthroughs in AI require breaking traditional scientific boundaries and encouraged students to adopt an interdisciplinary approach to drive innovation in engineering and technology.

“Artificial Intelligence is being prioritized globally, and India is proud to be a founding member of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence,” she stated. President Murmu noted that AI has the potential to transform diverse sectors—social, political, economic, and strategic—underscoring that young engineers have a world of new opportunities to explore through this technology.

The President urged the faculty, management, and students at NIT Raipur to embrace the philosophy of "Think Global, Act Local." She emphasized that, while aspiring to global standards, they should focus on developing low-cost, effective solutions for local challenges, making a meaningful impact within their communities.

Reflecting on the values for graduates to carry forward, President Murmu encouraged the students to consider a path that combines personal success with contributions to society and the nation. She urged them to question whether their ambition includes lifting others along the way or if they would compromise ethical standards for material gains. “Working for the welfare of others brings meaning to one’s life, fostering not only personal growth but also enriching society as a whole,” she concluded.

The convocation ceremony was marked by a strong sense of inspiration and motivation, as the President’s address left a lasting impression on the young graduates embarking on their careers.
