President Murmu Reviews IMA Passing Out Parade of 158th Regular Course in Dehradun

President Droupadi Murmu reviewed the passing out parade of the 158th Regular Course and the 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, and highlighted leadership, service, women’s participation, and international defence cooperation.

President Congratulates Officer Cadets on the Completion of Training

On June 13, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu reviewed the passing-out parade of the 158th Regular Course and the 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, in India. After the passing out parade, the President congratulated the Officer Cadets on completing the most prestigious and toughest training program in India. The President stated that as they commence the journey of serving the citizens of India, their strength will be the combination of their courage and wisdom.

The President also expressed happiness in having nine women cadets among the graduating officers. She stated that this represented a significant milestone in the history of the Indian Military Academy. In her opinion, it was also a significant milestone in the history of the Indian Armed Forces and of the women’s development in India. The President expressed confidence that in the times to come, women cadets will join the Academy in greater numbers.

Foreign Cadets Symbolise India's Dedication to Global Partnership

The President also congratulated the cadets from friendly foreign countries and said she was confident that their service and the values they imbibed from the Indian Military Academy would make them a credit to their armed forces and to their countries. She mentioned that the presence of foreign cadets at the Indian Military Academy demonstrates India's willingness to strengthen friendships, partnerships and peaceful relations throughout the world.

She observed that the cadets who studied at the institution formed mutual confidence and respect, and professional relationships. In the President's view, such relationships were crucial in developing defence partnerships among the nations. Relationships among cadets from different countries help in the development of professional military relationships.

 

President Urges Courageous and Responsible Leadership from Young Officers

Talking to officer cadets, the President said that they are the guardians of the country’s sovereignty, unity and integrity, and hold the sacred trust of over 1.4 billion citizens. She said that they should remember that service is the highest duty. She said that the Indian Army should be adaptive and ready for the future, considering the rapid changes in security threats and challenges, the advancement of technology, and the complexity of the global order. She asked the young officers to be lifelong learners and to make courageous decisions while being ethical.

The President added that Army officers are required to lead, guide, and care for the soldiers under their command. She said that officers should lead by example and instil confidence and team spirit, and that officers should care for the well-being of their soldiers to enhance the operational effectiveness of their unit. She said that young officers should lead from the front in caring for their soldiers and in upholding the glorious traditions of the Armed Forces.
