Ashoka University to Host Public Lecture on US Treasury Safety

Ashoka University’s Department of Economics will organize a public lecture by renowned economist Prof. Viral V. Acharya, focusing on the safety, privilege, and systemic risks associated with US Treasury markets.

Sonipat - The Department of Economics at Ashoka University is set to host a public lecture by Prof. Viral V. Acharya on 9 February 2026, beginning at 1:40 PM. The lecture, titled “How Exorbitant? How Privileged? Reassessing US Treasury Safety”, will be held on campus at AC-02-LR-007 (Takshila).

Prof. Acharya, C.V. Starr Professor of Economics at New York University’s Stern School of Business and former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, will critically examine the perceived safety of US Treasury securities. His talk will explore how regulatory frameworks, systemic risk, liquidity dynamics, and policy-induced distortions shape global financial stability.

The session will also draw on Prof. Acharya’s extensive research in financial regulation, credit and liquidity risks, inflation uncertainty, and climate-related financial risks. The lecture is expected to attract students, faculty members, and researchers interested in macroeconomics, finance, and global policy debates.
