New Delhi : The Government of India has announced the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, the nation’s highest recognition for exceptional and inspiring contributions in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. The awards celebrate the achievements of India’s most distinguished scientists, technologists, and research innovators who have advanced the frontiers of knowledge and contributed significantly to national development.

Recognising Scientific Excellence

Instituted by the Government of India to promote pathbreaking research and innovation, the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar honours individuals and teams whose scientific contributions have made a lasting impact. The awards are conferred under four categories:

  • Vigyan Ratna (VR): Recognises lifetime achievements and exceptional contributions in any field of science and technology.
  • Vigyan Shri (VS): Acknowledges distinguished contributions across scientific disciplines.
  • Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB): Encourages young scientists (up to 45 years of age) demonstrating outstanding research and innovation.
  • Vigyan Team (VT): Awarded to teams of three or more scientists or researchers for exceptional collaborative contributions in science and technology.

The Puraskar covers 13 domains — Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering Sciences, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Technology & Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science & Technology, and other allied fields.

Selection Process

Nominations for Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025 were invited via the official awards portal between October 4 and November 17, 2024. Submissions underwent a rigorous multi-stage evaluation conducted by a distinguished panel comprising the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, the Chairperson of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar Committee, Science Department Secretaries, and leading academicians and domain experts.

The process was coordinated by the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar Secretariat, ensuring transparency, objectivity, and adherence to the highest standards of evaluation.
