SAARC Media Conclave Held at Shyam Lal College (Evening), Delhi University

Shyam Lal College (Evening), Delhi University, hosted a SAARC Media Conclave on security and development in South Asia, focusing on the role of media and journalism.

 SAARC Countries’ Media Conclave Organised at Shyam Lal College (Evening), Delhi University

New Delhi. ; A Media Conclave focusing on regional issues was organised at Shyam Lal College (Evening), University of Delhi, under the joint aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the **SAARC Journalists Forum (SJF), India Chapter. The theme of the conclave was “Security and Development in South Asia: A Media and Journalism Perspective.”

Welcoming the distinguished guests, the Principal of the college, Prof. Nachiketa Singh, said that regional cooperation, peace, and development are essential to sustain democracy in South Asia. He emphasised that the media plays a crucial role in strengthening this cooperation and that such international academic interactions provide valuable opportunities to understand the cultures and perspectives of neighbouring countries.

Addressing the conclave, Raju Lama, President of the SAARC Journalists Forum, shared his views on the international importance of SAARC nations, the geopolitical situation of South Asia, and the significant role played by Indian media in matters related to national and regional security.

Prof. Smita Mishra, Convener of the International Executive Committee of the SAARC Journalists Forum, discussed security challenges faced by South Asian countries while highlighting the importance of human security and regional stability. She appreciated the meaningful initiative taken by Shyam Lal College (Evening) in hosting the conclave.

On the occasion, the SAARC Journalists Forum honoured Prof. Nachiketa Singh by presenting him with a memento in recognition of his contribution and leadership.

The Coordinator of SJF India Chapter, Dr. Aniruddha Sudhanshu, observed a two-minute silence in memory of Ramnath Vidrohi Ji and urged participants to uphold and work towards the core objectives of SAARC.

The programme was conducted by Prof. Aditya Prakash Tripathi, Programme Coordinator, who highlighted various dimensions of the conclave’s theme during the proceedings.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Pramod Kumar Dwivedi, Coordinator of IQAC and Convenor of the programme. He expressed gratitude to the dignitaries from SAARC countries, members of the teaching and non-teaching staff, and students for their active participation and support in making the event successful.

The conclave witnessed the gracious presence of distinguished guests from SAARC nations, including Mohammad Abdur Rahman, Secretary General, SJF International, and Rahul Samantha, President, SJF Sri Lanka Chapter, along with SJF members from various Indian states, faculty members, staff, and a large number of students.
