UTU Cancels Two BTech Exams Over Alleged Paper Leak, Assistant Professor Arrested.

UTU has cancelled two BTech semester examinations after an alleged question paper leak. An external paper setter has been arrested, and the university will be conducting re-examinations in August while tightening examination security measures.

Dehradun: Two BTech semester examinations have been cancelled at Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University (VMSB UTU) after the leakage of the question paper was suspected. This decision has been made after an investigation was conducted inside the university which revealed that an external paper setter had leaked the question paper to the students.

These canceled exams took place in 12 affiliated colleges of the university. In the first incident, the issue was discovered when it was found out that the students had been provided with the questions for one of the semesters in advance. During the investigation, there was said to be information indicating the participation of an assistant professor in a private engineering college, who had been appointed as an external paper setter for the exam. It was revealed during the investigation that he allegedly circulated the question papers through WhatsApp groups ahead of the exams.

The UTU cancelled both examinations and scheduled new examinations in August 2026 after confirming the occurrence of the leak. The university has also banned the professor from all university-related academic and examination functions for seven years.

The accused has been apprehended by the police and a case has been filed against him. It is being investigated if there are any other persons involved in the leak and whether other students also benefited from it.

The paper leak has created political and student agitation and there are calls for taking strong measures against the culprits and ensuring that stricter rules are implemented in the university examinations in the future.
