Walk In Interviews for JRF and RA Positions At DRDO DIHAR in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), a premier laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has invited applications for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Research Associate (RA) positions. This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 25 vacancies for candidates interested in working on cutting-edge defence research projects in high-altitude regions.

The recruitment includes 22 positions for Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and 3 positions for Research Associates (RA). The JRF vacancies are distributed across several engineering and science disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering: 02 posts for B.Tech graduates.
  • Computer Science Engineering / Information Technology: 04 posts for B.Tech graduates.
  • Electronics & Communication / Electronics & Instrumentation: 06 posts for B.Tech graduates.
  • Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering & Production: 06 posts for B.Tech graduates.
  • Material Science / Physics / ECE: 01 post for M.Tech graduates.
  • Electronics & Instrumentation: 02 posts for M.Tech or B.Tech graduates.

For the Research Associate (RA) positions, there are 3 vacancies in fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, and Computer Science or IT.

Candidates for the JRF positions must hold a B.Tech degree in the first division with a valid GATE score, or an M.Tech degree in the first division at both graduate and post-graduate levels. The maximum age limit for JRF applicants is 28 years. For the RA positions, candidates must possess an M.Tech degree with three years of research, teaching, or design and development experience, and have at least one research paper published in an SCI journal. The maximum age limit for RA applicants is 35 years. Age relaxations for SC, ST, and OBC candidates are applicable as per the Government of India rules.

Selected JRFs will receive a monthly stipend of ₹37,000 plus HRA. The initial tenure is for two years, which may be extended up to five years based on performance and DRDO guidelines. Research Associates will receive a stipend of ₹67,000 per month plus HRA for a maximum tenure of two years. The selection will be conducted through a walk-in interview on February 24, 2026 (Tuesday). Candidates are required to report by 08:45 AM at the DIHAR Base Station, Near 3 BRD, Industrial Area Phase-II, Chandigarh – 160002. The selection process includes an initial screening based on qualifications, followed by personal interviews for shortlisted candidates on the same day. Applicants must bring their neatly typed bio-data, original certificates for date of birth and educational qualifications, and self-attested copies of these documents. RA applicants should also bring documentation of their research experience.

Candidates already working in Government, Public Sector Undertakings, or autonomous bodies must provide a "No Objection Certificate" (NOC) from their current employer at the time of the interview. No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview or joining the post. Additionally, these positions are for R&D project-based studies and do not guarantee permanent absorption into DRDO. Applicants must be medically fit to work in high-altitude environmental conditions.
